Since moving into the country, feral cats began visiting our porch. Kayla, having a place for cats in her heart, put food out one night for the visitors. This started something we weren’t expecting: our porch became home for a colony of cats. Ernie is a female that was born nearby and lived with her brother, Agnes, throughout the winter months in a shelter I built on our porch. The follwoing spring she gave birth inside the shelter and our porch has since become home to a growing number of cats and their young.
